More than ten years after its release, a rare early version of Minecraft was believed to have been lost. Minecraft Alpha 1.1.1 was released for the original Java Edition in September 2010 and was only accessible for a little over three hours. Now it's been rediscovered by gaming archivists.

There have been a variety of versions of Minecraft over the years, and fans have meticulously saved and archived a lot of them for the sake preservation. However one particular version, Alpha 1.1.1 or Seecret Saturday, was thought to be completely lost. Minecraft servers It introduced fishing rods as well as sneaking to Minecraft. However it was discovered to contain a game-breaking bug that caused the screen to go completely gray. Version 1.1.2 was released within hours.

@lunasorcery, through Kotaku posted the complete story of its rediscovery over Twitter. Luna says that Alpha 1.1.1 was a popular meme or holy theophany in Discord Omniarchive's Minecraft archiving Discord Omniarchive. None of them thought they would find it.

Someone found one of Luna's old tweets and she was asked about it. She finally discovered an archive of minecraft.jar which was created on the same date as Alpha 1.1.1's release on September 18, 2010. Minecraft servers Luna confirmed that the file was Alpha 1.1.1 and shared the information on Omniarchive, which then went down.

So I wrote in Omniarchive, and it would not be an understatement for me to say that some people were interested.

The reactions are enough to make you realize how important this discovery is. I literally start shaking.
