The company posted a blog post titled "Minecraft and NFTs" and acknowledged that some creators and companies have begun launching NFT projects associated with Minecraft world files and skin packs. The post suggested that Minecraft creators might use the game to create and sell collectible NFTs. These NFTs could be earned through activities on a Minecraft server, or as a reward for their activities in the real world.

Mojang stated in the post that blockchain technologies were not allowed to be integrated into Minecraft client and server apps. They also cannot be used to create NFTs associated to any in-game content including worlds and skins.

"We will also be closely watching how blockchain technology develops over time to ensure that these principles are withheld, and determine if it will allow for safer experiences and other practical and inclusive applications within gaming," the company stated. Spencer also told Axios last year that NFTs had the potential for being exploitative and that the market contained "a lot" of items that were not necessary to be in your store.

Similar sentiments are expressed in Mojang's blog post. The company wrote that each of these NFTs and blockchain technologies creates digital ownership based in scarcity and exclusion. This is contrary to Minecraft values of creative inclusivity and playing together. "NFTs are not inclusive of all our community and create a scenario of the haves and the have-nots.
