Microsoft announced that they have sold 176 million copies of Minecraft, quite a big leap over the 156 million number it announced just seven months ago. Despite the hype surrounding games like Fortnite, Microsoft has kept the game current with features like the Dungeons online co-op, a free browser version, a movie coming soon and now, an augmented reality game called Minecraft Earth. Microsoft also announced that it has reached 200 million registered users of the Microsoft China edition and that 130 million Minecraft "Hour of Code” sessions have been completed.

When it starts to ratchet up the beta program for Earth the figures could really take off. The new game is more immersive than Pokemon Go, the mobile AR champ. It's very exciting. Microsoft plans to release Minecraft Earth around the world gradually, starting with a closed beta this summer. Website
