Patch 33 The Dungeon Finder Guide

Patch 3.3 is here and the old-fashioned group interface is gone. The old heroic dailies? Gone. The reputation dungeon daily? Gone. The results of completing all those daily tasks are now Feats of Strength as even if you didn't have them previously they'll be impossible to get now.

In their place, we get the ability to queue for dungeons in much the same way that you queue for battlegrounds. You can have your group formed in a matter of minutes and then be teleported to the instance. For those of you who just recently hit 80, there is no excessive GearScore requirements (thank the Earth Mother), no insane dps requirement, and no achievement verification. It solves all the issues that arise when trying to find an entire group of heroes to purchase gear.

Let's take a better look at this new feature. Mccainsource

A brief background... Let's begin by talking about why we have this amazing tool. Back in the days of "Additional instances are not able to be launched," the servers were created in a way that each realm was given its own instance server. This is how we believe it is, as Blizzard has its own network layout.

But, prior to Wrath the players didn't have that many instances. This was something guilds were doing however it was not something that the general population got into. When Wrath hit and pugging became the cool new trend but the servers were not prepared for it. To stop the servers from collapsing under the burden of so many instances being played on them, Blizzard implemented a cap on the number of instances that could be running simultaneously. This made instances reliable and simple to use however it also made it very difficult to access and caused the "Additional instances" issue that we all know.

This was a temporary fix to their larger plan. To fix the issue with "Additional instances" they removed all instances servers connected to one realm and made them available to all realms of their battlegroup. If your instance server was full it will be redirected to an instance server with slots left. Tada, "Additional instances" is now fixed. This is just a guesstimation, as Blizzard will not divulge this information.

This opened up a wide range of possibilities for Blizzard. Your instance servers were distributed throughout the battlegroup so you could immediately create an instance with anyone in your battlegroup. All you require is a flashy interface and you're good to go. Okay, we're a bit simplistic the concept, but that's basically what they did. Let's look at it more closely.

Quick and Dirty Dungeons... If you'd like to read the same text along with images, I've included an image gallery at the end of the guide to make it easier to understand the message I'm trying to convey.

You'll see a new "Dungeon Finder" instead of the "Dungeon Finder" if you log into World of Warcraft now. It's very similar to the old one. Your role selection is at the top, either as a healer, tank, or DPS. You can also choose to lead the group.

However, where it differs is that instead of the standard choice of your three dungeons or heroics or raids there's an adventure. It's also your daily heroic quest that starts at 80. For the daily quest, all you have to do is hit Find Group'. Characters at lower levels will receive an awesome bag of goodies that includes blue-quality items for leveling up and running dungeons.

Give it about 2 seconds (that was the amount I saw on the PTR, however your mileage will vary) and you'll learn the role you'll play and what quest rewards you should be expecting upon completion of this dungeon. I used that graphic for the opener.

You'll see a ready-check-check-check-check-check-check appear when you hit 'Enter Dungeon. This will tell you whether anyone else has hit their enter dungeon buttons. All About Wow Private Servers The check marks represent the people who are prepared, while question marks are the ones you're waiting for. If you get a big red X (in my case, it was the healer who refused), the Dungeon Finder will take your team out of the game and find the replacement. You're still at the top of the list, so the first appropriate healer to pop up is yours. It will repeat the same ready-check procedure until it finally has everyone gathered and ready to enter the dungeon.

Please take note that at the moment you haven't had to meet with anyone, from any party or debate who's the healer and who is dps.

Once everyone is ready when everyone is ready, you will be taken to the dungeon. You won't have to go through the meeting stone, you will not have to fight the door boss for the right to enter the dungeon. In the default UI, every player will have an icon that represents their specific role on their party nameplate. Healers are identified by the same little plus sign that appears on the Dungeon Finder screen, dps has a little dagger (or maybe it's a sword), and the tank has an icon of a shield. The leader of the party also has a little flag. Isn't it adorable? Thanks to this, there is no confusion about who is doing what. After everyone has been buffed, it examines to see if there's an X sign and then pulls.

If everything goes smooth and you get rid of the final boss of the dungeon, the rewards from the quest appear in your inventory. If you exit the dungeon entrance, you'll be teleported back to where ever you were prior to hitting "Enter Dungeon" and you can just repeat the process over again for more loot or rewards.
