The Minecraft movie is stacking up its cast. Jason Momoa (who you may remember as the guy who has mountainous biceps, a waterfall of locks from Aquaman, or the guy who has mountainous biceps, and a stream of hair from Game of Thrones), will star in the Minecraft movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, that's at least according to today's report.

In the event you've banished it from your memory, the Minecraft movie has been around the block. It first popped up in 2014, when Minecraft creator Marcus "Notch" Persson announced its "potential" existence on Twitter in order to get ahead of "leaks." Since then, the film has been mired in various states of development hell (an industry term meant to describe projects that have languished in development for ages due to production woes).

Shawn Levy was initially tapped to direct the project. He is perhaps best known as the director for richly complex narrative tapestries like The Adam Project and Free Guy. But he quickly left. At another, Rob McElhenney of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia fame was attached to the project in the same capacity, for a planned release date some time in 2019. He quit Minecraft in 2018 and delayed the film indefinitely. robinson's blog Warner Bros., the film’s production company, gave it an official release date of 2022 shortly after it was originally scheduled for release. Robinson Is Back (Hey, it's kind of on track!) Peter Solett was attached to direct the touching Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jared Hess will now be the director. Hess is perhaps best known for his funny coming-of age comedy Napoleon Dynamite. However he has also directed several television programs, including two episodes in the Will Forte series The Last Man on Earth.

It is not clear what the plot of the Minecraft movie will look like. It's safe to assume that Minecraft will not be as dark as the other block movie. Hess is directing, and Momoa, who has some great comedy chops, is leading the project.
