Siberian Teens Convicted To Prison For Trying To Blow Up Minecraft Version Of FSB Building

It's a bit gruesome to be punished for playing a videogame, however, it's possible if you're a Russian child.



Nikita Uvarov, 16 years old, was recently found guilty of "training for terrorist activities" by an Russian military court after the teen planned to destroy an online version of the FSB the country's national intelligence agency...while playing Minecraft. MINECRAFT He was sentenced to five years of prison.



The Moscow Times reports that Uvarov and his two buddies, Bogdan Andreyev and Denis Mikhailenko, were arrested back in the year 2020 for a series of activities that the government was able to conclude were part of a dangerous plot. In addition to preparing to detonate a virtual version of the FSB The trio also distributed fliers to show support for Azat Miftakhov, who is a Russian anarchist who was charged with vandalism in 2019. Authorities say they also used homemade explosives to attack abandoned buildings.



Due to all this, the two boys were recently found guilty of "undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist acts," and delivered prison sentences. Andreyev and Mikhailenko were found guilty and were sentenced suspended. Uvarov however, insisted on his innocence and was later sent to prison.



It's not entirely clear if the government's claim is that the game was used as a sort of virtual training exercise for actual terroristic acts. MINECRAFT Minecraft, the wildly loved video game, is known for allowing players to construct their own customizable structures. Russian authorities have made it clear that they believe that the teens were not simply playing around but actively planning something criminal.
