Minecraft has been around for a considerable time, and its popularity is increasing. However since its release on November 18 in 2011, more and more servers have been added, deleted, and forgotten. Over the last 12 years, Minecraft has had four servers. Some were full of drama and chaos while others were a quiet place for friends to hang out.

Position 1 - Novylen

Date of Creation Date of Creation: April 9th, 2010,

Created by: rbos

Address: minecraft.novylen.net

The Novylen Minecraft Server located in Canada is the official name of oldest Minecraft Server ever created, on April 9th, 2010, 4 months prior to the previous holder, MinecraftOnline. If you had read the previous articles you'll notice that MinecraftOnline was released the same day multiplayer was created and how was Novylen created earlier than this?

Although the server was launched the day after Minecraft Multiplayer's launch The map was made way earlier, when the owner, rbos first played the map in his singleplayer world back in the Minecraft InfDev period (specifically InfDev 20100413), 4 months before the release of Minecraft Multiplayer. To add to this, the server has never ever been reset, which means a player could have hopped on over 10 years ago, constructed something, and then left forever and their work being the only evidence of their existence. Novylen is also much less well-known than 2b2t, meaning it hasn't faced the same fate as 2b2t, which has seen countless griefs, exploits and hackers. Many of the original creations from 2010 are still in use even today.

Position 2 - Nerd.nu

Date of Creation: June 10 2009 *

Created by: (unknown); Current Head Admins: defiex, fazaden, pez252

Address: nerd.nu

Nerd.nu was launched on the 10th of June 2009, and was first launched just 3 days after Minecraft's unofficial Multiplayer release, Version Classic 0.0.16a'. This was so early in Minecraft that survival mode was not a feature in the game at the time. As you can see from the image above, many creations from different time periods of Minecraft have been created on Nerd.nu. The server has had various game modes added over time, but the most popular and oldest is the 'Creative' type which means that players don't have a health bar, but can fly, and build whatever they like with their imagination.

Although the server was created in the early stages, some argue that MinecraftOnline is much older than it was. This is due to the fact that the map has been reset several times over the years, which means it's not the same as it was 20 years ago. The Creative game mode created by Nerd.nu is currently at its 36th revision. It has been reset 35 times before.

In light of the server resets mentioned earlier it was decided that Nerd.nu is not the oldest server since its world is relatively new. Position 3 - Minecraft Online Date of Creation: August 4, 2010 Created by SlowRiot

Address: MinecraftOnline.com

MinecraftOnline was launched on August 4, 2010, and has been in operation since. It was launched within an hour of Notch releasing survival mode. Since this time, incredibly the server has remained up and running and has not been reset a single time. It's not like the cobblestone conglomerate 2b2t has created.

Amazingly, MinecraftOnline has been staffed since its beginning. MinecraftOnline also has rules that players must adhere to in contrast to 2b2t. That doesn't always mean players adhere to the rules however during the 12 years it's been running, over 43,000 players have been banned. But it's not just that. The world's size (remember that it has never been reset) has grown to 26GB, just one world.

Position 4 - 2b2t (2builders2tools)

Date of Creation: December 1st 2010 *

2b2t is one of the most popular Minecraft servers. Since it's founding at the end of December 2010 2b2t has been notorious for being an anarchy server, where there is an extreme lack of rules, thousands of players roaming using hacked client systems, and an absence of friendliness and a distinct, beaten-up landscape. The most prominent feature of the server is its map. It hasn't been changed since it was created. This means that countless players have walked through the server over the years, leaving their marks on the server forever.

In it's early days 2b2t saw a steady stream of players, fluctuating between 10 and 80 over the course of time. This changed in June 2016 though, as popular YouTuber TheCampingRusher uploaded his first video. Sometimes Since then, many other YouTubers have recorded on the server, bringing 2b2t the server's popularity to the forefront. The server had over 1000 active users in 2022, and it doesn't look like that number will drop anytime soon.

In conclusion, as well as these servers, a lot of other servers date back to the year 2011. Not all servers have been around this long, and

Popularity isn't just about the past. Minecraft Server Lists have also been around since the beginning of time and show some of the top Minecraft servers available. Server lists (or server databank) is a list of information about a server. It typically contains information like the name of the server, IP address and ports.
